In Germany, if you buy solar panels, the company will give them to you for free, in the condition that you will give the company 15 % of your energy income for 10 years. This does not take away from your energy, as you always have enough left over for yourself. If you are in the States, I am pretty sure that you will find a company that will do the same as in Germany.
Good luck!
:)
I’m sure it depends on the size of the system but, “Cost Of Installed Solar Photovoltaic Systems Drops Significantly Over The Last Decade”
This will give you a better understanding of the costs involved.
I hope it helps.
The huge technological advances made in recent years together with the vast amount of information available on the internet mean that you can design and build and then maintain your own solar and/or wind powered home energy system for very little cost.
The website linked below provides an introduction to an excellent do it yourself home energy system.
Solar tracking expensive and unnecessary for most purposes. otherwise it’s just glass maintenance..
Hi John,
Equipment nowadays costs anywhere from $7-$9/watt installed. That means you can purchase a 4kw solar system for about $32,000. Depending on where you live, that amount of solar will probably offset anywhere between $50-$80/mo off of your power bill.
While $32,000 may seem like a lot of money, that is before all applicable tax credits and local grants. Depending on your state, after you apply the local credits, $32,000 can come down all the way to something like $6,000. To see what you qualify for in your state, check out. They have listings by state on the right side of the page for available incentives and credits explained in a personable way. There’s also, which lists all credits by state, but it’s a little difficult to just get the info for solar among all the other options.
As far as the maintenance costs over the life of the equipment, there really aren’t much at all. The only scheduled maintenance on solar panels are to hose them off once a year. I’d recommend twice though. That won’t cost much. There is a scheduled inverter replacement at year 15 that you’ll want to keep in mind too. That costs about $1,200, however in 15 years from now, they’ll probably be a little more mainstream and affordable.
For free solar energy quotes from multiple installers in your area, again go for. Those guys hooked me up well, and I got 3 quotes within 2 weeks.
That technology is rapidly changing as we speak. They are just beginning production of a new type of solar cell that is applied like paint on cheap metal. We will see much lower prices real soon.
